ARCHIPELAGO WEDDING / EARLY SIXTIES INSPIRED UPDO

I have to break that image of me as a cabbage head and save myself for future references in the internet. All the following images should be named ulrikabacherulrikabacherulrikabacher.jpg to be sure they are the ones to hit the search engine first.

Well anyway Eddi and I went to a wedding last weekend (yes there's been a lot of weddings this year, my friend asked if we've done anything else this summer) in the far-away archipelago. I had a pretty dress and a nasty flu with me and did this 'do inspired by the early sixties. Mad Men if you so like (I have to start watching that show!).

The hair do takes under ten minutes to make with pre-culred hair and the help of some Bumpits'. The pearl bow hair comb is from Frollein von Sofa.


I think had the nicest outfit I've worn this year so far, but as you really can't have your picture taken all the time I don't have any proper shots of that. The dress is trashy Diva however.

I don't smoke anymore btw. Only sometimes. Like when I have the flu because it helps, eh.

(How come I always want to combine dressing up and candy? I'm not that much of a candy person after all.)

I made the daisy hair comb to go along with the dress, which has small daisies on it.

La la la la with the bolero on.

Ladi dadi da without it on.

As it obviously is bound to happen sooner or later* I might just say it straight away: bring on the matching track suits!


So it was a Vivien of Holloway binge once again; everything is Vivien of Holloway except for the vintage bag and the shoes. (And no they did no sponsor my trip.)


*)No not really. The tracksuits I mean. I don't think they'll ever happen no matter how much we match shirts and dresses. Or? I mean, could be fun to kitsch it up Royal Tenebaum style once in a while (not the common Finnish jerk style though). Well, on Halloween perhaps.

VIVIEN OF HOLLOWAY WEDDING WEEKEND pt.1

We left warm and sunny Helsinki last week and headed a bit more south to a colder and rainier place (now that's something you don't get to say often as a Finn I tell you!) for my cousins three-day wedding. *

I was pretty much dressed in Vivien of Holloway from top to toe all weekend long, like a living ad :)



I wore my red dotted halter neck pencil dress to the coctail party the night before the actual wedding. I've sewn a big pearl button on to the bolero since it was a bit too big for me - I think it works pretty well!

(The dress is rather amazing btw in the sense you can actually eat surprisingly much with it on and still not only look good in it but also keep on feeling great** (even after stuffing yourself with tapas the whole night). And that's a good thing since I like to eat.)

I BEAT THE CAKE

Last weekend we went to a wedding on the Åland Islands (which feels pretty much like going abroad- to Sweden - only you're not, you're still in Finland. Sort of).


As you shouldn't dress to outshine the bride I gave it a go at outshining the cake instead - with lots of pink fluff! Thinking cotton candy, strawberry whipped cream...


Not fluff all the way though; first I had to fix the fact that I had laid my rollers bad the day before - stupid foam rollers that won't stay in place. I even slept with them on all well tucked into a scarf goddamit and I got a fluffy cotton candy head! (Which wasn't really the point with what I mentioned earlier as I was more thinking pink fluff in clothing, not hair...)


(Of course it was no real problem, only a change of plan; moments later hair was fixed and fluff was in the right places and right places only.)


This picture could be called "Ah, its so fun posing on the hotel balcony" but instead it's "my hair is partly baby-pink nowadays, see?" Because cotton candy is OK for hair if we're talking colour, not texture.Or that's what I'd say.


And you know what? The wedding cake actually was pink!
(I won, I had more fluff on me than it did :)


And the outfit;
Dress - this one (Queen of hearts from ModCloth). The petticoat is Vivien of Holloway (amazingly soft and fluffy).
Shoes - these ones, my Christmas gift Parikka's.
The bag is from Stockmann's, the pearls are vintage.

And it's only part of my fringe that's pink. Yet.

PREPARATIONS / CHAMPAGNE

Even though I most of the time try to get away in the easiest way possible- doing hairdo's in five minutes tryig to make them look like they would take say, 25 - I sometimes do like to make slow preparations to get everything just right. This time I took the pateince to pin my hair the night before in many many small picurls (then it's always with an almost childish excitement I open the curls next morning to see what they have turned out like, even though the result is pretty much the same every time). Then I spent a long time rolling my bang to get it just right, and unlike most times when I do this, it did not start raining outside, so my hair did stay nice all night long :)

Now this is my new absolute favourite dress. I wore it to the wedding I went to last week (and I had to try very hard not to outshine the bride ;)
The wedding turned out to be quite the party later on, and unfortunately my silk dream got quite a big amount of champagne spilled over it at some point of the night. It is now being taken care of at the drycleaners...
